Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what information Empire Code Editor (the "Editor", "we", "us") collects when you use the Editor, the website and the Dev Area, how we use it, and the choices you have. Last updated: November 2026.
1. Who we are
Empire Code Editor is a desktop code editor for Windows, together with a website and a developer area (the "Dev Area") for publishing extensions. The service is operated by the project owner. You can reach us at amitlasry323@gmail.com.
2. Information we collect
Account information
If you create a Dev Area account, we store your email address and a securely hashed version of your password (we never store your password in plain text).
Extensions and content you submit
When you publish an extension, its name, description, image, code and version history are stored on our servers and shown publicly in the marketplace to all users.
Usage information
We keep basic, non-identifying counters to run the service: the number of downloads, and an approximate count of active installations (using a random, anonymous installation id). When the Editor is downloaded, a notification may be sent to our Discord channel (the notification does not include your identity).
AI prompts and code
When you use the AI features (AI chat, Code fixes, AI Builder, etc.), the text of your request and the code you choose to include are sent to our AI provider, Google Gemini, to generate a response. See section 4.
Data stored on your own device
Your settings, installed extensions, file history and similar data are stored locally on your computer and are not sent to us.
3. How we use information
- To provide and operate the Editor, the website and the Dev Area.
- To sign you in and keep your developer account and extensions.
- To show the public extension marketplace and keep download/active-user counts.
- To provide the AI features you request.
- To respond to extension submissions and support requests.
We do not sell your personal information.
4. Third-party services
The Editor integrates with third-party services. When you use a feature, data is shared with that service under its own privacy policy:
- Google Gemini — powers the AI features. Your prompts and any code you include are sent to Google to generate responses.
- Spotify — if you use the music player, your interaction is with Spotify and subject to Spotify's terms.
- Discord — the Rich Presence feature shows your current file/activity on your Discord profile only while enabled.
- GitHub — used for downloading updates and, optionally, for publishing your projects when you connect your account.
- MongoDB Atlas & Render — our servers and database, where accounts and extensions are stored and hosted.
- npm registry — the Package Manager queries the public npm registry to search and check package versions.
5. Storage and security
Account and extension data are stored on managed cloud infrastructure (MongoDB Atlas, hosted via Render). Passwords are stored only as salted hashes. While we take reasonable measures to protect your data, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
6. Your choices and rights
- You can stop using the AI features at any time so that no prompts are sent to the AI provider.
- You can delete your extensions from the Dev Area.
- You can request that we delete your account and associated extensions by contacting us.
7. Children
The service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date at the top of this page.
